Ricky, un petit garçon de 10 ans, a succombé peu de temps après avoir sauvé sa petite sœur de la noyade. Le corps sans vie du héros a été repêché par la police du comté de Lincoln, des eaux de la rivière de Big Sioux.
Sa mère Nicole Eufers a déclaré à la police que l’enfant se trouvait sur la rivière avec son père et ses frères et sœurs lorsque plusieurs d’entre eux sont tombés à l’eau.
Son père s’est jeté à l’eau pour les repêcher, et le jeune Ricky voulant faire pareil pour sauver sa sœur Chevelle n’a pas pu résister aux eaux malgré son héroïsme.
Il a pu ramener sa sœur sur le rivage, mais lorsque son père et ses frères et sœurs se sont retournés, il avait disparu, avant d’être repêché de la rivière plus tard par la police.
Ricky est un petit garçon qui aimait la pêche. « Il m’a appris à aimer et à apprécier la vie. Il ne manquait jamais de m’étonner », a déclaré Eufers.
