Sécurité alimentaire en Afrique : le continent devrait pouvoir se nourrir
« Nourrir l’Afrique : Souveraineté alimentaire et résilience ».
Le deuxième sommet des chefs d’Etat portant sur la sécurité et la souveraineté alimentaire en Afrique s’est ouvert le 25 janvier dans la capitale sénégalaise, notamment au Centre international de conférences Abdou Diouf (Cicad) de Diamniadio. Cette rencontre stratégique qui prendra fin le 27 janvier a pour thème « Nourrir l’Afrique : souveraineté alimentaire et résilience ».
Un sommet sur la sécurité alimentaire à travers l’Afrique a entendu des appels pour que le continent se nourrisse, plutôt que de dépendre de l’aide ou des importations.
Ainsi durant trois jours Dakar sera le Hub Alimentaire du Continent oû les questions de Nourriture sont discutées à travers ce Sommet Dakar 2 axé sur « Nourrir l’Afrique : Souveraineté alimentaire et résilience »
Le sommet connaît la participation active d’une vingtaine de chefs d’État et de gouvernement ainsi que d’une quarantaine de pays représentés par leurs experts oeuvrant dans le domaine de l’agriculture, sans oublier ceux issus du secteur privé pour relever le défi croissant de la sécurité alimentaire en Afrique.
Ceci, à travers la mobilisation des ressources gouvernementales afin d’encourager les partenaires au développement à financer le secteur privé et à exploiter le potentiel agricole et alimentaire de l’Afrique qui est toujours en berne.
Pour ce faire, selon la Banque africaine de développement (BAD), il faut que les Etats transforment les efforts de plaidoyer en actions concrètes. C’est ce qui justifie le bienfondé de la réunion de Dakar.
« Nourrir le monde exige donc que les systèmes alimentaires mondiaux soient modifiés pour libérer pleinement le potentiel de production alimentaire de l’Afrique », précise la directrice générale adjointe de la FAO, Maria Helena Semedo.
L’actuel président de l’Union africaine – le président sénégalais Macky Sall – a déclaré lors de la réunion de Dakar que l’Afrique avait un énorme potentiel qui n’était pas exploité.
Selon le directeur de la Banque africaine de développement, Akinwumi Adesina, les deux tiers des terres arables non cultivées du monde se trouvent en Afrique. Il a dit que l’Afrique peut et doit se nourrir.
Des dizaines de millions de personnes en Afrique de l’Est et dans la région du Sahel sont confrontées à la faim à cause de la sécheresse, des conflits et de l’augmentation du coût de la nourriture et du carburant.
Les dirigeants présents à la réunion ont été exhortés à renouveler leur engagement pris il y a deux décennies de consacrer 10 % des budgets gouvernementaux à l’agriculture et au développement rural.
Notons que cette rencontre de haut niveau est organisée par la BAD en partenariat avec la FAO et le gouvernement sénégalais.
