Les journalistes Ferdinand AYITE et Joël EGAH contre qui un mandat de dépôt avait été signé ont quitté lvendredi 24 décembre la BRI pour la prison civile de Lomé.
Les charges retenues contre eux sont « outrage à l’autorité » et « propagation de propos mensongers sur les réseaux sociaux ».
Jusqu’au vendredi 24 décembre après-midi, Ferdinand Ayité et Joël Egah étaient détenus par la BRI, la Brigade de recherche et d’investigation.
Ils ont été arrêtés pour avoir critiqué deux ministres du gouvernement (le ministre de la Justice et celui du Commerce) lors d’une émission diffusée sur YouTube.
Leur avocat Me Elom Kpade s’est exprimé : « Depuis deux semaines, la situation de mes clients est restée statique, çà n’a pas vraiment bougé. Les deux demandes de libération provisoire que j’aie introduites dans ce dossier ont toutes été rejetées. Donc, nous sommes en attente d’un procès futur, futur et imminent. Je reste toujours confiant que mes clients seront libérés parce que les arguments et les moyens que nous avons toujours mis en avant depuis le début de la procédure sont des arguments de droits, sont des arguments qui ont une assise juridique bien précise, contrairement à ce que nous voyons au niveau du parquet qui s’est précipité pour se jeter à l’eau dans ce dossier, alors qu’à sa disposition, le parquet ne dispose que d’un élément objectif lui permettant de rentrer en poursuite contre mes clients. Nous sommes fermes, nous sommes sereins. Nous attendons que le dossier soit rapidement programmé pour l’audience, ce qui nous permettra d’y aller et de dire toutes les vérités. »
Grincements de dents et désolation dans le monde médiatique togolais a ce jour du réveillon de Noël, contre toute attente, les deux directeurs de journaux ne peuvent pas fêter les Noël en famille. Privés de leurs enfants, les deux journalistes ont été précipitamment déposés à la prison civile de Lomé aujourd’hui.
