Jean Pierre Fabre, le président du parti a annoncé lundi sa suspension aux discussions.
Dans une lettre adressée ce 12 juillet au ministre de l’administration territoriale, Boukpessi Payadowa, l’ex chef de file de l’opposition togolaise explique qu’il est strictement impossible pour lui et son parti de servir d’acteurs passifs et sans voix dans les discussions concernant le cadre électoral.
« Nous ne pouvons nous retrouver cantonnés dans un rôle d’accompagnateur et de faire-valoir, pour une opération de saupoudrage ou de replâtrage du cadre électoral de notre pays, que l’ensemble des populations togolaises juge inique et propice à la fraude en faveur du pouvoir en place » a écrit Jean Pierre Fabre a ministre Boukpessi.
Le parti de Fabre dont la popularité est en dégringolade depuis les élections présidentielles dernières souhaite dans sa lettre la mise en œuvre des « recommandations pertinentes » formulées par l’Union Européenne (UE), l’organisation internationale de la francophonie (OIF), et le programme des nations unies pour le développement (PNUD), afin d’améliorer le cadre électoral.
