Quand elle est bien exécutée, avec ces voix et un chœur harmonieux qui s’élèvent en dominant légèrement le piano, la guitare, l’orgue Hammond (Et normalement le xylophone et la harpe.), on a l’impression d’entendre des anges chanter et des notes joyeuses de Do, Ré, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si, envahir l’espace que nous occupons. Cette musique de Louis ARMSTRONG, Aretha FRANKLIN, Brother Joe MAY est influencée par le Jazz et la Soul et transmet des messages de paix, d’amour et d’espoir. Comme à l’église….(Sourire.).

Cette exclamation qui « En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis! » est le titre d’un grand classique GOSPEL dans l’église chrétienne. Les choristes vous le confirmeront sans aucun doute!

Du GOSPEL? Mais Quel son transpercant !! AMEN, ALLÉLUIA!…C’est en effet, une musique vocale sacrée, chrétienne, des noirs d’Amérique du Nord. Elle a été créée dans un contexte marqué par la lutte contre l’esclavage et continue aujourd’hui d’animer les grands moments religieux tels que les mariages, les concerts, etc….

À ces occasions et même plus, les incontournables chants gospel tels que « OH HAPPY DAY! », « AMAZING GRACE. », « NOBODY KNOWS THE TROUBLES I’VE SEEN! », « GLORY GLORY HALLELUYA. », « GO DOWN MOSES. », « DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE. » ne font pas piètre figure à la fête. Ils font vibrer les coeurs, les chœurs et les corps, embellissent les prières et consolident la foi des chrétiens présents à ces grandes assemblées religieuses. Elle n’est pas belle la vie?! Elle n’est pas belle la foi religieuse? (Sourire.).

En plus, mieux cerner l’origine du mot GOSPEL, revient à notifier qu’il vient du vieil anglais « GODSPELL. » qui signifie « Évangile. ». L’évangile quant à lui est un mot d’origine grecque et signifie « Bonne nouvelle. ». Tout ceci pour dire que le GOSPEL est le symbole d’une nouvelle naissance, d’une résurrection et de la grâce qui libère. En lien donc avec l’émancipation des esclaves.

« Bien chanter, c’est prier deux fois. » affirme Saint Augustin. Le GOSPEL vu sous l’angle de cette citation y correspond parfaitement….Alors, pourquoi ne pas prier dans une belle ambiance? Celle du chant et des pas de danse soutenus par ce GOSPEL mythique mais surtout priant! Il transporte fidèlement et musicalement les vœux et les souhaits vers le créateur! AINSI-SOIT-IL.
