Un travailleur humanitaire a été kidnappé de sa voiture dans l’est du Mali, dit le chef de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé.
Dr Mahamadou Diawara est un médecin qui travaille pour l’organisme mondial de la santé, et dans un tweet qui, le patron Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, a déclaré qu’il avait « déploré » les actions des « assaillants non identifiés » qui avaient kidnappé M. Diawara dans le district de Ménaka.
Le Dr Diawara, chirurgien déployé par l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé (OMS) dans l’extrême Est du Mali, à Menaka depuis le début de l’année 2020, menait des efforts pour fournir des soins médicaux à des communautés souvent isolées et confrontées à des risques d’insécurité et de violence.
« Un patient est un patient », avait déclaré le Dr Mahamadou Diawara. « Notre travail, c’est d’aller là où les gens sont et ont besoin d’aide sanitaire. »

Dans le Sahel, les besoins humanitaires dus aux conflits armés, à la sécheresse, aux maladies et à l’instabilité politique sont aggravés par des niveaux élevés d’insécurité alimentaire affectant plus de 34 millions de personnes. En réponse, l’OMS a mis en place une riposte renforcée dans les six pays les plus affectés, dont le Mali, pour fournir des services de santé essentiels aux populations.
