Le Mogho Naba, chef traditionnel de l’ethnie Mossi majoritaire au Burkina Faso, a joué un rôle dans les tractations entre militaires qui ont permis d’éviter au pays un bain de sang potentiel.
Le « Naba » règne sur un royaume qui date de plusieurs siècles.
Autrefois, très influent sur ses sujets, son autorité a été considérablement rognée sous l’administration moderne et particulièrement sous la révolution de Thomas Sankara.
Aujourd’hui, il est surtout devenu un symbole vivant de la tradition.
L’influence du Mogho Naaba dans la vie politique au Burkina tient surtout au fait que le siège du pouvoir politique dans le pays se trouve au coeur de son royaume, le Plateau Mossi.
Des députés élus à l’Assemblée nationale, des ministres du gouvernement et certains ambassadeurs sacrifient régulièrement à la tradition : aller chercher son assentiment symbolique.
En temps de crise, son rôle devient plus important. Comme la reine d’Angleterre, il est censé être au-dessus de la mêlée politique, ce qui est un atout pour toute médiation.
On peut se rappeler du soulèvement d’octobre 2014, où certains protagonistes de la crise, à tour de rôle, se sont rendus dans la cour du roi, à la recherche de conseil et de sagesse. C’est donc sans surprise que l’on a vu le chef des putschistes, Gilbert Diendéré, débarqué à l’époque chez le Naba, alors que la ville bruissait des nouvelles sur la convergence des forces armées vers Ouagadougou. Le chef traditionnel a joué un rôle de médiation dans les tractations entre militaires qui ont permis d’éviter au Burkina Faso un bain de sang potentiel.
L’homme a fréquenté l’école moderne et parle couramment français. Mais dans ses fonctions officielles, il s’adresse à ses interlocuteurs en langue Moré par le canal de son ministre, gardien de la tradition orale, le Larlé Naaba. Le Mogho Naaba est passionné de foot. Il a aussi pratiqué la boxe.
