La ville de Mavueni est à environ 66 km (40 miles) de la forêt de Shakahola où le chef de la secte Paul Mackenzie est accusé d’avoir ordonné à ses partisans de mourir de faim afin qu’ils soient les premiers à aller au paradis avant ce qu’il a prédit serait le fin du monde le 15 avril.
Mackenzie est en garde à vue depuis le 14 avril et n’a fait aucun commentaire public sur les accusations.
Depuis vendredi, les enquêteurs ont déterré les corps de 95 membres de son autoproclamée Good News International Church dans des tombes peu profondes dans la forêt, et huit autres ont été retrouvés vivants et émaciés mais sont décédés plus tard.
