Université de Lomé : le PNUD-Togo pose les premières pierres d’un laboratoire offert au département de géographie
Le département de Géographie de l’université de Lomé peut prochainement penser à concevoir des solutions géo-informatiques appliquées aux questions climatiques.
Le département filleul de la faculté des lettres et sciences humaines (FLESH), a bénéficié ce mercredi 19 mai 2021, de la mise en terre des premières briques d’un futur laboratoire de télédétection appliquée et de géo-informatique (LTAG).
L’action est un don du Programme des Nations Unies pour le Développement (PNUD-Togo). Son utilité est plus qu’une évidence, dans une université où la majeure partie des cours, généralement théorique, est teintée d’une stérilité indiscutable.
Le nouveau laboratoire permettra aux étudiants de rompre alors avec la théorie et de prendre en marche, le train de la recherche scientifique.
Le département de géographie peut alors se donner pour défis, grâce à ce laboratoire, de mettre en place des applications de télédétection et de technologies connexes pour l’université, pour des ministères, et toutes autres institutions.
Pour Aliou Dia, représentant du PNUD-Togo, c’est l’œuvre d’une longue coopération entre l’organisme onusienne et l’état togolais. « Le PNUD s’emploie à soutenir l’université de Lomé pour valoriser la recherche en sciences appliquées et à définir les grandes orientations de la recherche scientifique et du développement technologique, conformément à la politique nationale », indiqua-t-il.
Les étudiants en géographie de l’université de Lomé, reçoivent depuis 2002 des cours en télédétection et SIG, mais parfois pour un bon rendement, ils font usage de logiciels libres et sous licence (QGIS et Arc GIS).
