Le Maroc rejoindra officiellement la candidature de l’Espagne et du Portugal pour accueillir la Coupe du Monde de la FIFA 2030
Le roi Mohamed VI a fait savoir ce mardi que le Maroc s’associait à la candidature de l’Espagne et du Portugal pour organiser la Coupe du monde 2030. Le trio devra affronter un autre projet mené par un quatuor sud-américain : Argentine, Uruguay, Paraguay et Chili.
« J’annonce devant votre assemblée, que le Royaume du Maroc a décidé, avec l’Espagne et le Portugal, de présenter une candidature conjointe pour abriter la Coupe du Monde 2030. »
Le roi Mohamed VI a officialisé ce mardi, à l’occasion de la remise du Prix de l’Excellence de la Confédération Africaine de Football, la candidature du Maroc pour l’organisation du Mondial 2030. Le Maroc, demi-finaliste de la dernière Coupe du monde, remplace l’Ukraine qui s’est retiré du projet. Pour la première fois, des pays africains et européens unissent leur force.
« Cette candidature, sans précédent dans l’histoire du football, réunira l’Afrique et l’Europe, le nord et le sud de la Méditerranée, et les mondes africain, arabe et euro-méditerranéen », a déclaré le ministre marocain des Sports Chakib Benmoussa lors de la cérémonie.
Il s’agit de la sixième tentative du Maroc d’accueillir la compétition. Le pays d’Afrique du Nord est entré dans l’offre à chaque fois qu’il était éligible depuis 1994.
Le Maroc remplace l’Ukraine, qui devait rejoindre la candidature de l’Espagne et du Portugal avant que sa fédération de football ne soit impliquée dans un prétendu scandale de corruption.
La nouvelle est apparue ces derniers jours que les pays ibériques étaient en pourparlers pour inclure le Maroc suite à la révélation de la fédération ukrainienne.
Le Maroc garde l’espoir que les triomphes de l’équipe nationale à la Coupe du monde 2022 aideront le pays à remporter la candidature.
L’année dernière, l’équipe du pays a atteint les demi-finales du tournoi, devenant ainsi la première équipe africaine à le faire et s’imposant comme un acteur solide du football mondial.
L’offre conjointe devrait également atténuer certaines des préoccupations concernant les capacités logistiques et d’hébergement qui viendront avec l’augmentation du nombre d’équipes. La FIFA a annoncé que le nombre d’équipes en lice pour le trophée passerait de 32 à 48 à partir de la Coupe du monde 2026.
La candidature sera confrontée à une forte concurrence, d’autant plus que l’Argentine, le Chili, le Paraguay et l’Uruguay ont préparé leur propre candidature conjointe, en capitalisant sur l’édition marquant le 100e anniversaire du tournoi.
L’Uruguay a accueilli la toute première Coupe du monde en 1930. L’Arabie saoudite, l’Égypte et la Grèce prépareraient également leur propre offre.
