Les dirigeants de la Communauté des États ouest-africains (Cédéao), réunis jeudi 3 février à Accra, ont décidé de ne pas imposer de nouvelles sanctions au Burkina Faso où des militaires ont pris le pouvoir le 24 janvier.
Les dirigeants de la sous région ouest africaine demandent aux autorités burkinabé de proposer un calendrier clair et rapide pour un retour à l’ordre constitutionnel.
Lors d’un premier sommet virtuel tenu après le putsch à Ouagadougou, les dirigeants ouest-africains avaient décidé de suspendre le Burkina Faso des instances de la Cédéao et d’envoyer deux missions sur place, l’une militaire, l’autre ministérielle.
Des discussions franches
Le sommet d’Accra, où les chefs d’État étaient physiquement présents, a entendu le compte-rendu des participants à ces missions qui avaient rencontré le nouvel homme fort du Burkina Faso, le lieutenant-colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba. Avant de quitter Ouagadougou lundi, la ministre des Affaires étrangères du Ghana, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, avait parlé de «discussions franches» et trouvé la junte «très ouverte aux suggestions et aux propositions» de la Cédéao. Avec d’autres membres de la délégation, elle avait pu rencontrer le président renversé Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, placé en résidence surveillée et qui, avaient-ils dit, va «très bien», exigeant sa libération.
La semaine dernière, lors de sa seule déclaration publique depuis sa prise de pouvoir, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba a assuré que son pays, en proie à des attaques djihadistes régulières depuis 2015, avait «plus que jamais besoin de ses partenaires» internationaux. Dans le sillage du Mali et du Niger, le Burkina Faso est pris depuis 2015 dans une spirale de violences djihadistes qui ont fait au moins 2000 morts en près de sept ans et plus de 1,5 million de déplacés.
