« Ajay a passé plus de trois décennies à construire et à gérer des entreprises mondiales prospères qui créent des emplois et apportent des investissements aux économies en développement, et à guider des organisations à travers des périodes de changement fondamental », a déclaré Joe Biden dans un communiqué.
La Banque mondiale a déclaré mercredi qu’elle prévoyait de sélectionner un nouveau président d’ici début mai pour remplacer David Malpass, qui a annoncé sa démission la semaine dernière après des mois de controverse sur ses opinions sur le changement climatique et les pressions exercées par la secrétaire au Trésor Janet Yellen pour qu’il adopte des mesures « plus audacieuses ». et des réformes « plus imaginatives ».

« Ses efforts ont permis à 500 millions de personnes n’ayant pas de compte en banque d’avoir accès à l’économie numérique, de diriger les investissements privés vers des solutions pour faire face au réchauffement climatique et d’augmenter les opportunités économiques dans le cadre du Partenariat pour l’Amérique centrale », a détaillé la secrétaire américaine au Trésor Janet Yellen, dans un communiqué séparé dans lequel elle « applaudit la décision du président Biden ».
L’Allemagne, autre actionnaire majeur, a déclaré cette semaine que le poste devait être attribué à une femme, ce qui serait une première au cours des 77 ans d’existence de l’institution.
