La Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO) a réagi aux violentes manifestations qui se déroulent au Sénégal depuis le 01 juin 2023 à travers un communiqué signé de vendredi 2 juin 2023. La CEDEAO se dit inquiète de « l’éruption de la violence au Sénégal à la suite du verdict du tribunal concernant l’ affaire Ousmane Sonko Adji Sarr

« La Commission de la Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO) suit avec inquiétude l’éruption de la violence au Sénégal à la suite du verdict du tribunal concernant l’affaire Ousmane Sonko –Adji Sarr.
La CEDEAO condamne fermement les violences qui ont visé les forces de sécurité, les biens publics, les propriétés privées et troublé l’ordre public. Elle déplore la perte en vies humaines et appelle à la retenue et au règlement des différends par des moyens pacifiques. La CEDEAO reste saisie de l’évolution des événements au Sénégal. Elle appelle tous à défendre la réputation louable du pays en tant que bastion de paix et de stabilité. »
Pour rappel Ousmane Sonko avait été acquitté le 01 juin dernier dernier du viol et des menaces de mort contre Adji Sarr, mais tribunal l’a condamné à une peine de 2 ans de prison ferme, pour « corruption de la jeunesse », qui consiste à favoriser la « débauche » d’un jeune de moins de 21 ans. Depuis ce jour, les soutiens farouche adversaire du président Macky Sall laissent éclater leur colère dans la capitale dakaroise et dans d’autres villes du pays.
Les manifestations de ses partisans contre cette décision de la justice sénégalaise ont conduit à des heurts causant une quinzaine de morts, selon plusieurs médias sénégalais.
