[BON A SAVOIR] Qui, grâce à son invention, le téléphone cellulaire a fait son apparition il y a 47 ans?
Henry Sampson est l’inventeur du téléphone cellulaire, car c’est à partir de son invention « la cellule Gamma électrique » (brevet déposé le 6 juillet 1971 sous le n° 3591860) qui permet d’envoyer et de recevoir des signaux audio au moyen d’ondes radio sans fil, que le célèbre « téléphone portable » a pu faire son apparition dans le monde entier.
Ce grand chercheur naît en 1931 à Jackson, dans le Mississippi. En 1956, il obtient son bac en sciences à l’Université Purdue. À l’Université de Californie (Los Angeles), il passe en 1961 sa maîtrise en ingénierie, un master en génie nucléaire à l’Université de l’Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) en 1965, et deux ans plus tard, il obtient un doctorat dans le même domaine.
Il fut ingénieur chimiste à l’ »US Naval Weapons Center » avant de travailler pour la « Aerospace Corporation » en Californie où il occupera divers postes (ingénieur projeteur, directeur des opérations et des planifications des programmes tests).
Récompenses et distinctions attribuées à Henry Thomas Sampson:
1962-1964: Fellow of US Navy,
1964-1967: Atomic Energy Commission,
1982: Black Image Award from Aerospace Corp,
1983: Blacks in Engineering, Applied Science and Education Award, Los Angeles Council of Black Professional Engineers.
