Il y a quelques semaines, L’Église catholique annonçait son projet de création d’un établissement financier dont la dénomination serait « ICTUS BANK ». Aujourd’hui, la Conférence épiscopale du Bénin (CEB), a informé l’opinion publique de l’annulation du projet.
En effet, dans un communiqué datant du 25 août 2022, Mgr Eugène Houndékon, président de la commission épiscopale de l’économie et des finances de la Conférence épiscopale du Bénin (CEB), a informé l’opinion publique de l’annulation du projet. Et toujours dans ce communiqué, il a également tenu à donner des explications sur le choix du nom de la structure qui serait une erreur.
La dénomination « ICTUS BANK » donnée au projet de création d’un établissement financier par l’Eglise catholique est une erreur. Selon Mgr Eugène Houndékon, « l’emploi des termes « Bank », « banque » et « bancaire » dans la dénomination commerciale de la société en création ainsi que dans les statuts et autres documents portant sur le projet de création », n’est pas approprié. C’est pourquoi, au regard de l’article 13 de la loi portant réglementation bancaire, il en apporte une rectification formelle.
Par ailleurs, la CEB a décidé d’annuler l’avis d’appel public à l’épargne, lancé dans le cadre du projet. Il s’agit d’une décision temporaire en attendant de suivre les procédures légales en la matière. Lesdites procédures conduiront à une demande formelle d’agrément auprès des institutions compétentes qui sont le ministère de l’économie et des finances, la BCEAO et la commission bancaire de l’UEMOA.
