Belgique/ Santé : le REGN-COV2, un nouveau traitement contre le coronavirus approuvé par arrêté ministériel
Un nouveau traitement destiné aux patients contaminés par le coronavirus, le REGN-COV2, a été autorisé par arrêté ministériel, a indiqué jeudi l’Agence fédérale des médicaments et des produits de santé (AFMPS).
Le REGN-COV2, ou casirivimab/imdevimab, est un médicament expérimental développé par la société de biotechnologie américaine Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, en partenariat avec le laboratoire Roche Holding.
Le produit n’a pas encore été approuvé mais a reçu un avis scientifique positif de l’Agence européenne des médicaments (EMA).
L’arrêté ministériel, promulgué par le ministre fédéral de la Santé publique Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit), a été publié mercredi au Moniteur belge.
Le REGN-COV2 fonctionne grâce à deux anti-corps qui s’attaquent à la protéine de pointe (« spike ») du virus Sars-CoV-2. Les résultats intermédiaires des études cliniques montrent que ce traitement permet de réduire significativement la charge virale du coronavirus, soit la concentration de virus dans le corps. L’EMA conseille d’utiliser le REGN-COV2 pour soigner des patients qui n’ont pas besoin d’être placés sous oxygène mais courent toutefois un risque élevé de développer une forme grave du Covid-19.
