La ville de Glidji a été fondée par Foli-Bébé qui était accompagné de ses frères de sang : Foli Hemazro et Amah Passam.
Les trois frères venaient d’Accra, où ils étaient les princes héritiers du sixième roi Mi-Oquankoue. C’est vers le XVIIème siècle qu’au cours d’une guerre tribale leur père, voulant se donner la mort, leur dit de fuir avec les attributs royaux. Les princes exécutèrent l’ordre.
Ayant fui le Ghana, Foli-Bébé et ses frères se sont d’abord réfugiés à Tonou (qu’on appelle aujourd’hui Tannou et Bodougbe, là ou se trouve la petite forêt de Guinve) qu’ils quittent après quelques années, se sentant pas très en sécurité. Ils ont traversé la rivière, la Lagune et se sont retrouvés sur un étang appelé Djaketo.
À Djaketo, les princes ont voulu rencontrer le maitre de ces terres. Ils ont alors rencontré un chasseur et un peuple de pécheurs qui leurs ont indiqué un endroit vers Tado. Foli-Bébé et ses frères sont alors allés vers Tado lord d’un voyage qui dura quelques mois.
Arrivé à Tado, les princes rencontrèrent un chef appelé Agnigbafio (signifiant roi des terres). Ce dernier, fils de Togbe Agni, fit preuve d’une grande hospitalité en leur accueillant très bien et en leur offrant des terres vers le bas ; après Yoto. Ces terres allaient Tokpli jusqu’à la plage. Alors Foli-Bébé et se frères s’y installèrent.
Un jour, les rois de Tado et de Zaffi eurent un conflit de terre.
Les trois princes jouèrent alors avec brio le rôle de médiateur dans le processus de paix ; tellement que naquit une grande amitié entre ces rois. C’est ainsi que pour montrer leurs gratitudes aux princes les nouveaux amis, constatant que les princes n’avaient pas de femmes, donnèrent chacun d’entre eux à un des princes une fille en mariage. Foli-Bébé épousa Dansi, fille du roi de Tado et son frère Xemanzo epousa quant à lui Zaffissi, fille du roi de Zaffi.
Dansi donna naissance à Ayefo et Assiongbon Dandjin.
Le fils était un guerrier. Il partit faire la guerre à Abomey et y créa des amitiés fortes. Il revint avec ses amis vivre sur ses terres. Quelques années après des amis, des cousins telles que le clan Akagban y sont venus : c’est la fondation du peuple Guin avec comme capitale Glidji.
La statue en question représente Foli-Bébé. Il y est représenté sur une main, en particulier une main droite pour symboliser le soutient du peuple unis envers son roi.
