Le Président Umaro Cissoco Embalo, président de la Guinée Bissau et président en exercice de la CEDEAO a présidé, dans la matinée de ce 24 janvier 2023, la cérémonie officielle d’ouverture du séminaire parlementaire sur « la monnaie unique et le système de paiement et de règlement interbancaire dans l’espace régional de la CEDEAO »
Organisé à l’intention des parlementaires de la communauté économique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest, l’ouverture officielle de ce séminaire a été marquée par plusieurs allocutions parmi lesquelles celle du président du Parlement communautaire, Sidie Mohamed Tunis qui annonçait que ‘’la CEDEAO travaillait pour la création de la monnaie unique, régionale, l’Eco, d’ici 2027’’.
Les différents intervenants ont relevé la pertinence de la vision des pays membres de la CEDEAO qui ont eu l’idée depuis 40 ans maintenant de créer une monnaie unique et ont salué ‘’la détermination et l’engagement des institutions communautaires à mettre en œuvre le projet de monnaie unique régionale’’.
Ils ont alors invité les participants à ce séminaire, particulièrement les députés, à renforcer leur niveau d’information sur le sujet de la monnaie unique , des systèmes de paiement et règlements interbancaires pour mieux soutenir leur plaidoyer auprès des gouvernements, des acteurs économiques et des populations pour une meilleure synergie d’action dans la réalisation du projet stratégique de création d’une monnaie unique à l’horizon 2027, selon les déclarations du président du Parlement Sidie Mohamed.
Rappelons que le parlement de la CEDEAO est composé de 115 sièges. Pour l’attribution des sièges, il est garanti à chaque Etat membre un minimum de cinq sièges. Les quarante sièges restants ont été répartis au prorata de la population de chaque pays.
