Le président de la République togolaise, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé a rencontré les responsables du conseil scientifique ce vendredi 19 mars 2021 pour réfléchir sur la flambée des cas constatés ces derniers temps. De cette assise, il ressort que des nouvelles mesures restrictives seront proposées à la population togolaise pour endiguer très rapidement à la pandémie du Coronavirus. Cette décision qui coïncide avec la prorogation de 6 mois de l’état d’urgence pousse plusieurs personnalités et certains responsables des partis politiques à dire que le Togo serait pris en « otage » ou le gouvernement de Faure se cacherait derrière la Covid-19 pour réduire la liberté des togolais.
« Nous avons eu une réunion de crise avec le chef de l’État pour discuter de la flambée des cas constatés. Nous avons en moyenne 600 cas par semaine, soit à peu près 100 cas chaque jour et cette augmentation de cas est constatée depuis la première semaine du mois de Janvier. Nous avons discuté des différentes stratégies qu’on pourrait proposer pour contrôler très rapidement cette pandémie » a affirmé Prof Didier Ekouévi, le président du conseil scientifique tout en ajoutant que pour la seule journée de jeudi, 100 cas positifs et 4 décès ont été enregistrés par conséquent on ne peut rester sans proposer de nouvelles mesures restrictives.
La proposition du président du conseil scientifique vient coïncider avec la prorogation de 6 mois de l’état d’urgence demandé par la cheffe du gouvernement mardi dernier. Selon le président du Parti des Togolais, Nathaniel Olympio, le gouvernement togolais veut se servir de la pandémie du Coronavirus pour brimer les droits du peuple. « Dans le cadre des mesures ripostes, le couvre-feu qui avait été instauré, les patrouilles mises en œuvres pour le respect de ce couvre-feu ont conduit à la mort d’hommes du fait de leur comportement agressif. Donc, nous sommes légitimement inquiets de savoir ce que le pouvoir autoritaire du Togo fera de ces mesures exceptionnelles » a souligné Nathaniel Olympio
