En vue d’atteindre les objectifs visés à travers son Plan Régional d’Investissement Agricole (PRIA), la Communauté Economique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO) a entrepris la mise en œuvre d’un Programme sur la Résilience du Système Alimentaire en Afrique de l’Ouest.
La première phase de ce programme couvre au total sept pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest et du Centre dont le Burkina Faso, le Ghana, le Mali, le Niger, la Sierra Leone, le Tchad et le Togo pour une période de 5 ans.
Ce projet est cofinancé par la Banque mondiale, piloté par l’organisation ouest-africaine, le CILSS (Comité permanent Inter-états de Lutte contre la Sécheresse dans le Sahel) et le CORAF (Conseil ouest et centre africain pour la Recherche et le Développement Agricole.
D’un montant de 716 millions de dollars, ce projet vise à renforcer la gestion des risques inhérents aux systèmes alimentaires régionaux, améliorer la durabilité de la base de production dans les zones ciblées et de développer les marchés agricoles régionaux.
Environ quatre millions des habitants des pays ciblés vont bénéficier de ce programme régional multi-phase qui viendra compléter et intensifier les actions en cours pour vaincre l’insécurité alimentaire en vue d’améliorer la résilience des systèmes alimentaires.
On estime que le West Africa Food System Resilience Program (FSRP) bénéficiera directement à quatre millions de personnes, notamment des agriculteurs, des petits producteurs et transformateurs, ainsi qu’à de petites et moyennes exploitations agricoles.
Le programme vise également à réduire les inégalités entre les sexes dans l’agriculture et à atteindre au moins 40 % de femmes.
Le FSRP Togo a été officiellement lancé le mercredi 15 juin 2022 à Lomé.
La première phase va financer des interventions au Burkina Faso, au Mali, au Niger et au Togo.
La deuxième phase, qui devrait être approuvée par la Banque mondiale en juillet 2022, financera des actions au Ghana, en Sierra Leone et au Tchad.
