L’affaire de divorce entre la fille de l’ancien président du Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, et son mari a donné un aperçu de la richesse stupéfiante amassée par la famille – y compris des propriétés résidentielles d’une valeur de près de 80 millions de dollars (64 millions de livres sterling).
Bona Mugabe, 33 ans, a demandé le divorce de l’ancien pilote de ligne Simba Mutsahuni Chikore en mars et a demandé que la répartition des actifs soit traitée dans une affaire judiciaire distincte.
La BBC a vu des documents judiciaires déposés par M. Chikore le 28 avril en réponse à ceux de Mme Mugabe.
Il demande la garde conjointe des trois enfants du couple et une part des actifs, qui comprennent au moins 21 fermes, dont certaines ont été acquises par la famille Mugabe lors de la prise de contrôle controversée de fermes appartenant à des Blancs il y a environ deux décennies, et malgré la décision du gouvernement politique « un homme, une ferme ».
M. Chikore répertorie également 25 propriétés résidentielles, dont un manoir à Dubaï – d’une valeur totale d’environ 80 millions de dollars, des véhicules de luxe, du matériel agricole et des centaines de milliers de dollars en espèces.
Il dit que les biens ont été acquis seuls et conjointement pendant leur mariage, par héritage et dons du défunt président pour les travaux effectués en son nom.
Il ajoute que les actifs qu’il a répertoriés ne sont qu’une goutte d’eau dans l’océan, comparés à la richesse que Mme Mugabe possède en propre.
Les Zimbabwéens ont réagi avec choc et indignation devant l’étendue de la richesse amassée par un seul des enfants de M. Mugabe.
On ne sait pas quand l’affaire de divorce – devant un tribunal de la capitale, Harare – prendra fin.
Mme Mugabe et Mme Chikore se sont mariées lors d’un somptueux mariage en 2014 auquel ont assisté plusieurs chefs d’État africains – et qui a été diffusé en direct à la télévision d’État.
M. Mugabe est décédé en 2019 à l’âge de 95 ans, apparemment sans laisser de testament. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Grace, Bona, deux fils et un beau-fils.
Il était au pouvoir au Zimbabwe depuis l’indépendance en 1980 jusqu’à son éviction en 2017 par son ancien allié devenu rival, l’actuel président Emmerson Mnangagwa.
