Éducation/ La banque mondiale recommande d’enseigner aux enfants dans une langue qu’ils utilisent et comprennent
L’accent mis par la Banque mondiale sur l’acquisition des compétences fondamentales exige que les questions relatives aux langues d’enseignement soient placées au premier plan des discussions sur les politiques d’éducation.
Plusieurs sont ces enfants qui entrent en classe dès les premières années sans comprendre ce que dit leur enseignant ou le matériel qu’on leur fournit, car la langue utilisée dans leur école n’est pas celle qu’ils utilisent à la maison – leur « langue maternelle » et c’est un l’une des clé pour le développement de systèmes éducatifs plus équitables, et cela évitera les retards et les échecs, dès le tout début de leur scolarisation.
Des mesures inappropriées en matière de langue d’enseignement entravent l’apprentissage, l’accessibilité, l’équité, la rentabilité et l’inclusivité des apprentissages. Pourtant, un grand nombre d’élèves sont scolarisés dans des systèmes éducatifs utilisant des langues qu’ils maîtrisent mal, et ce dès l’école primaire.
C’est une recommandation dans un document de politique de la Banque mondiale dédié à la langue d’enseignement et d’apprentissage : « Haut et fort : Enseigner aux enfants dans une langue qu’ils utilisent et comprennent ».
Le document fournit également un aperçu du travail qui sera entrepris en vue d’aider les pays à introduire des réformes qui aboutiront à des systèmes plus résilients, équitables et efficaces en préconisant que l’enseignement soit dispensé dans la langue que les élèves et les enseignants comprennent le mieux.
