Togo-Les députés ont autorisé la ratification du traité portant création de l’Agence africaine du médicament
En présence du ministre Moustafa Mijiyawa de la santé, les députés à l’Assemblée nationale ont autorisé lundi 8 mai 2023, la ratification du traité portant création de l’Agence africaine du médicament, adopté à Addis-Abeba le 11 février 2019.
Cette agence est censée travailler avec les États membres et les Communautés économiques régionales (CER) afin de garantir que les produits médicaux soient abordables, accessibles, sûrs, efficaces et de bonne qualité.
La lutte contre le trafic de faux médicaments sur le continent, renforcer les capacités des Etats dans leur politique pharmaceutique et aussi répondre rapidement aux crises sanitaires actuelles et à venir est l’objectif principal de cette structure.
La protection des consommateurs pour avoir accès aux médicaments de qualité, reste une préoccupation majeure pour presque tous les pays du vieux continent. Plus de 50% des médicaments vendus en Afrique sont des contrefaçons.
L’Agence a également pour mission de mettre en oeuvre une réglementation des produits pharmaceutiques visant à mettre en commun les ressources et les expertises du continent africain afin de remédier au manque d’accès à des produits médicaux de qualité et abordables, au faible développement économique et à la réduction de la dépendance excessive à l’égard des produits médicaux importés.
L’Afrique fait à lui seul un quart de la morbidité mondiale alors qu’il ne produit que 3% des médicaments nécessaires. Pour importer les produits pharmaceutiques de l’extérieur, il rencontre de multiples intermédiaires, ce qui entraine l’augmentation exorbitante des prix des produits pharmaceutiques.
Les faux médicaments sont au mieux inefficaces; au pire très dangereux pour la santé.
« Les médicaments de qualité inférieure et falsifiés sont un problème de santé publique », a déclaré Moustafa Mijiyawa, le ministre de la Santé, après le vote.
La ratification de ce traité, devrait permettre au Togo de renforcer sa politique pharmaceutique.
